The Holy See Press Office announced that Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the envoy of Pope Francis, will visit Kyiv on 5-6 June.

This was reported by Vatican News, according to Ukrinform.

“This is an initiative whose main purpose is to listen in depth to the Ukrainian authorities about possible ways to achieve a just peace and to support gestures of humanity that will help ease tensions", the statement said.

It is noted that on 20 May, the spokesman for the Holy See, Matteo Bruni, issued a statement saying that he can confirm that Pope Francis has entrusted Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and head of the Italian Bishops' Conference, with the task of conducting a mission, in agreement with the State Secretariat, that could help ease tensions in Ukraine, the task of carrying out a mission, in consultation with the Secretariat of State, that could contribute to easing the tensions in the war in Ukraine, in the hope that the Holy Father has never waned that this could launch a peace process. The timing of this mission, as well as the way it will be carried out, is currently being studied.
