Ukrzaliznytsia completes test run on European gauge line from Poland

Together with railway workers, Polish Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration - Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov were on board of the pilot train, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to Ukrzaliznytsia’s press service.

“The test run on the 1,435 mm European gauge line has been completed successfully. As expected, the connection will be opened for passengers this summer, and a convenient transfer hub will be created in Rava-Ruska between the trains running from Warsaw on the 1,435 mm European gauge line and the trains running from Lviv on the 1,520 mm Ukrainian gauge line,” the report states.

The re-opened Rava-Ruska railway crossing point had been out of service for over 20 years. Ukrzaliznytsia JSC has restored an 8.4-kilometer European gauge section and renovated the Rava-Ruska station.

The Polish side will need several months to set up full customs and border control and complete formalities after the test run. Then, the start date for regular traffic will be announced.
