On Sunday, February 5, the National Security and Defense Council’s decision on sanctions against Russia's nuclear industry came into force.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in his video address to the nation, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The National Security and Defense Council’s decision on sanctions against Russia's nuclear industry has been enacted. And this is not the last decision regarding this branch. The meaning of our steps is also to support the efforts of our diplomats to expand global sanctions on this part of the Russian aggression machine," the Ukrainian president said.

He added that Russia is the only state in the world that allows its military to shell nuclear plants and use nuclear power plants as a shield to launch attacks from there.

The President emphasized that Russian missiles repeatedly followed trajectories over Ukraine's nuclear facilities.

"The terrorist state also uses the nuclear industry as one of the elements of external expansion to put pressure on other states, to create corresponding threats to the sovereignty of other states. All these are sufficient reasons for Russia’s nuclear industry to be under global sanctions. And we are working on it with our partners," Zelensky said.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference on the results of the Ukraine-EU summit called on all the countries of the European Union to approve a decision and introduce sanctions against Rosatom.
