President, First Lady honor memory of fallen defenders of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska have honored the memory of the country’s defenders fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian war and have taken part in the solemn event ‘Prayer for Ukraine’.

On Thursday, the presidential couple laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance near St. Michael Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

During the ceremony, a company of honor guard lined up, and the sound of a surma was played.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Olena Zelenska observed a moment of silence in memory of the fallen heroes.

 

The President of Ukraine also honored the memory of activists killed during the Revolution of Dignity in 2014.

On behalf of the Head of State, a basket of flowers was laid at the memorial cross on the Alley of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred in Kyiv.

Additionally, the presidential couple took part in the solemn event ‘Prayer for Ukraine’, which was held at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv.

Representatives of churches and religious organizations also joined the event.

The chamber choir performed ‘Our Father’. Afterwards, short prayers for Ukraine and speeches by church leaders and heads of religious organizations were delivered.

President Zelensky thanked the clergy for their prayers and words of support.

“Congratulations on Independence Day of Ukraine. I wish all of us victory,” Zelensky said, addressing the participants of the event.

A reminder that, on August 24, 2023, Ukraine is marking the 32nd anniversary of its independence.
