A court in Ukraine froze the assets of Russian oligarch Mikhail Fridman in Alfa-Bank worth UAH 12.4 billion.

"The assets of Russian oligarch Fridman in Alfa-Bank worth more than UAH 12.4 billion have been frozen. These are securities of Cypriot companies, affiliated with a businessman, which were on bank accounts,” Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova posted on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

As noted, UAH 469 million on Alfa-Bank accounts, already prepared for withdrawal to Russia, had been frozen at the request of prosecutors earlier.

According to Venediktova, not much effort was made to legalize the assets. For example, a sham transaction was concluded, buying a company with a pennyworth authorized capital for a cosmic sum.

The movement of funds to Russia began a few weeks before the war and intensified with the beginning of a full-scale invasion. Fridman and businessmen subordinated to him used the bank and Cypriot companies to protect funds from possible sanctions and other coercive measures, the Prosecutor General added.

The prosecutor's office, the Bureau of Economic Security and the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police in cooperation with the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine, the National Commission on Securities and Stock Market, and the State Tax Service of Ukraine caught the businessmen red-handed during the legalization of assets worth UAH 1.1 billion UAH.

Earlier, Fridman said that the information about the withdrawal of assets from Alfa-Bank (Ukraine) or the legalization of assets was not true.
