Ukraine does not see Russia's willingness to end war - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that even on the 72nd day of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, this war is far from over.

He said this at a virtual event held by Chatham House on Friday, May 6, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"But today is already the 72nd day of a full-scale war, and we do not yet see its end. We do not see or feel the willingness of the Russian side," Zelensky said.

According to him, Ukraine does not see comprehensive answers to all the threats posed by Russia. He recalled that for months the Ukrainian authorities have been calling for an oil embargo against Russia, the blocking of the entire Russian banking sector, and have been fighting for the supply of weapons in sufficient quantities. He thanked all the states that have been helping Ukraine since the first days of the war.

"But, unfortunately, not all states have assessed it that way. Even now, not everyone evaluates it that way. Most Russia-provoked challenges and threats have not been fully addressed. That's the main thing. So, we need new tools, we need to look for them constantly. New determination. Something that can stop not only Russia, but also any potential aggressor," Zelensky said.

He said Ukraine proposed creating a tool called U24 (United 24).

"By upgrading the global security system, we must create opportunities to prevent any aggression or at least stop it in 24 hours. Or - in 24 hours to provide such assistance to the victim of aggression, which will restore peace. Or - if it is not a war, but a natural disaster or any social challenge - in 24 hours the world community must provide a country or region with all the necessary assistance to save people," he said.
