Rosatom trying to take full control of Zaporizhzhia NPP - IAEA

Representatives of Russia's Rosatom are demanding daily reports from the Zaporizhzhia NPP management on "confidential issues" regarding the operation of the nuclear power plant.

This is said in a report published on the website of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ukrinform reports.

“Rosenergoatom – a unit of Russian state nuclear company Rosatom – had sent a group of nuclear specialists to the Zaporizhzhia NPP, naming eight. It said they demanded daily reports from plant management about ‘confidential issues’ on the functioning of the NPP,” the report says.

It is noted that Russian invaders demanded daily reports on the aspects related to administration and management, maintenance and repair activities, security and access control, and management of nuclear fuel, spent fuel and radioactive wastes.

The IAEA stressed that the situation at Zaporizhzhia “continues to be challenging and requires continued attention owing to the presence of Russian forces and Rosatom personnel at the site while operational management remains with Ukrainian plant operators”.

Russian forces seized the plant on March 4. Director General Grossi repeatedly expressed concern about the extremely stressful and challenging work conditions for personnel at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities during the conflict, especially at Zaporizhzhia and the Chornobyl site, which the Russian military controlled for five weeks before withdrawing on March 31.
