"The enemy has been bombing Kharkiv for a month and a half. The last two days, along with mines, shells, Grad systems, Kharkiv suffers the bombing of a new type. The Russian aggressor drops parachute bombs. I ask residents not to approach them in any case and immediately inform rescuers by calling 101 or 112," the press service of the Kharkiv City Council posted on Telegram with reference to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, Ukrinform reports.
The Mayor called on Kharkiv residents to stay in bomb shelters and subway stations, especially at night.
As reported, on April 8, eyewitnesses noticed parachute bombs on the outskirts of the city, at least seven private houses were destroyed.
On April 9, a five-story building was ruined in the same area.
The rescuers pulled seven people from the rubble of the house hit by missile strike, and eight more people were evacuated. A funnel about five meters deep formed near the destroyed house. In one of the entrances, all the floors were destroyed and the apartments collapsed. Eyewitnesses said they saw shells falling from the sky on parachutes. Such landmines can be dropped from Smerch multiple rocket launchers, confirmed sappers who inspected the site.
On February 24, Russian president Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops shell and destroy infrastructure, massively fire on residential areas of Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages using artillery, MLRS, and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed, general mobilization was announced in Ukraine. The whole nation is repelling the invaders.
