The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police, in cooperation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, foiled an agent of Russian military intelligence (better known as the GRU) in the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade operating in the Kharkiv sector.

According to Ukrinform, the SSU reported this.

The agent turned out to be a 30-year-old conscript recruited by the enemy.

According to the case file, the suspect passed the locations of his unit and adjacent units of the Defense Forces to the Russians, against whom the Russian Federation was preparing a series of strikes.

SSU officers exposed and documented the agent at the initial stage of his intelligence activities and then detained him.

The SSU also took measures to secure the locations of Ukrainian defenders in the frontline zone and on the front line.

The investigation established that the suspect came to the attention of the GRU after publishing pro-Kremlin comments on Telegram channels.

After being recruited, he traveled throughout the region in a service vehicle, marking the Defense Forces' locations on Google Maps.

The enemy was most interested in the coordinates of reserve command posts, logistics depots, and Ukrainian Armed Forces artillery. The Russians also tried to identify the locations of air defense firing positions covering Ukrainian Land Forces units.

Returning to the military unit after reconnaissance missions, the agent summarized the collected data for transmission to his supervisor, an employee of the 316th Reconnaissance Center of the Russian GRU.

During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of working for the enemy was seized from the detainee. Two combat grenades and almost 300 g of explosives, which he had taken with him when fleeing from the military unit, were also found in his possession.

SSU investigators informed the agent that he was suspected of violating two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 2 of Article 111 (treason committed under martial law) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons and ammunition).

The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a 40-year-old employee of the information security department of a commercial bank in Kyiv who was passing on the personal data of Defense Forces soldiers and volunteers to the Russians.
