US position on support for Ukraine remains unchanged – State Department

The U.S. Department of State has reaffirmed that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine and will continue to provide assistance — a position that has not changed.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce made this statement during a press briefing on Tuesday, July 8, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We care about those people. We care about making sure that they have what they need. The President has been very vocal about the wholesale slaughter that has been going on and how it has to stop, how there has to be a ceasefire, and how it's – it has to be between the two parties," Bruce said.

She noted that weapons supplies to Ukraine had resumed following what the White House described earlier as a "standard review" by the Pentagon of existing stockpiles.

"The President has been vocal about this. Without the details of exactly what, the President feels obviously very passionate and determined regarding the ability of Ukraine to defend itself," Bruce said.

She stressed that the United States had not changed its stance on supporting Ukraine.

"We've been helping them [Ukrainians], we'll continue to help them. It's a pretty tough situation. And so that's our position. It's what it has always been," Bruce said.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump praised the bravery of Ukrainian troops and the effectiveness of U.S.-supplied weapons, while also stressing the need to accelerate domestic arms production.
