Russia seeks to influence U.S. elections to undermine support for Ukraine - media

This is stated by Bloomberg with reference to sources in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, reports Ukrinform.

Russia poses the most serious threat in the current election cycle, the publication wrote, referring to an intelligence official. 

At the same time, officials emphasize, Moscow may consider the election as an opportunity to achieve greater goals, namely to reduce support for Ukraine's military efforts, undermine trust in democratic institutions and in the US as a whole.

The U.S. intelligence community expects Russia to try to take advantage of the discord in American society, including amid protests on university campuses regarding the war in Gaza.

It notes that Iran also intends to influence the 2024 U.S. election by fomenting domestic strife and even promoting violence, officials said.

Meanwhile, China is taking a more cautious approach, being aware of the potential fallout from election interference.

The ODNI Center, which analyzes information flows and media, has been operating in the US since 2022 to counter potential meddling. The center also oversees the intelligence community's efforts to alert targets of foreign interference, as well as to inform the public on emerging threats.

In October 2020, the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence warned that both Iran and Russia had obtained U.S. voter registration data in their attempts to interfere in the election process.
