Ukraine court to try Mariupol school principal for treason

This was reported by the National Police, Ukrinform reports.

"The National Police inquiry established that the said resident of Zaporizhia region lived in Mariupol where she headed a local high school. After the Russian troops temporarily captured Berdiansk, she moved to the city and started cooperating with the invaders. The woman became a principal of one of the local schools, where she organized the educational process in line with the Russian standards and curriculum," police say.

According to law enforcement, she headed Berdiansk’s School No.11.

It is noted that the court allowed police to run the probe in absentia.

Investigators with the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office, have completed the pre-trial inquiry, the report notes.

"The indictment has been forwarded to court under Article 111 Part 2 (high treason amid martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspect may face up to 15 years or life in prison," the statement emphasizes.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, a principal of a Kyiv-based private school, who cooperated with Russian invaders, will also be tried for treason.
