Galushchenko: IAEA’s recommendations to be implemented as soon as Ukraine controls ZNPP

"Conclusions and recommendations based on the mission results will be implemented as soon as we are ceded the control of the plant. Ukraine’s full control of the plant must be restored," Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko posted on Facebook.

He noted that the IAEA mission had already left for the ZNPP.

The ZNPP is a Ukrainian nuclear power plant, and only Ukraine is able to guarantee the fulfillment of all safety components of its operation, the minister emphasized. He called the creation of a demilitarized zone around the facility an important stage after de-occupation.

"We jointly discussed and gave the mission a list of technical and safety indicators that are important for international experts to check during their visit to the plant. The successful implementation of all tasks by the mission will be of great importance for the nuclear safety not only of Ukraine but of the whole world," Galushchenko noted.

As reported, the IAEA mission led by Director General Rafael Grossi arrived in the Ukrainian capital on August 30 ahead of the planned visit to the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The ZNPP, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, has been captured by the Russian military since March 4. The invaders have placed military equipment and ammunition in the plant’s territory, shelling the surrounding area.

The United Nations, the United States, and Ukraine called on the Russian Federation to withdraw military equipment and personnel from the nuclear facility.
