Ukraine has come closest to the European Union since independence, and the "gray zone" between the EU and Russia may finally disappear thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian people.

“It is thanks to the bravery of Ukrainian men and women that Europe can create this new history of freedom and finally remove the ‘gray’ zone between the EU and Russia in Eastern Europe. Ukraine has come closest to the European Union since independence,” President Zelensky said in his latest address.

The Head of State called the day historic, given the visit of the leaders of France, Romania, Germany, and Italy who supported granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.

“Of course, all relevant procedures must be followed, and all EU member states must join. But at our meeting today a big step was made - a step forward,” Zelensky explained.

As reported, on June 16, President of France Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi, and President of Romania Klaus Iohannis arrived in Ukraine and held talks with President Zelensky.
