The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has passed a law establishing and increasing monthly payments to citizens recognized as having special merits before their homeland.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, 259 MPs passed the legislative initiative, No. 13164, at a parliament meeting on Wednesday.

The law stipulates that if two or more members of a family of a fallen (deceased) citizen who has special merits before the motherland are eligible for payments under the Law of Ukraine "On Monthly Cash Payments to Certain Categories of Citizens," the monthly benefit will be allocated and paid in equal parts among them.

In addition, the law increases the amount of the monthly payment to family members of fallen (deceased) citizens with special merits before the motherland – from one to one-and-a-half minimum wages.
