Russia unable to eliminate consequences of tanker disaster in Black Sea - CCD

The Russians have been unable to clean up the mess left by their tankers in the Black Sea, even six months after it happened.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"The Kremlin has been unable to clean up the aftermath of the Russian tanker disaster in the Black Sea even six months later. In particular, in Anapa, which was most affected, another oil spill was recently recorded. Meanwhile, the Russian authorities are encouraging people, even children, to go on vacation to the area of ecological disaster, despite the fact that oil slicks continue to be found in the water," the report says.

It is noted that in December last year, as a result of the accident, approximately half of the 9,200 tons of fuel oil carried by Russian tankers ended up in the waters of the Black Sea, affecting the coastal areas of the Krasnodar Territory and occupied Crimea.

The Russian government has stated that the complete cleanup of the contaminated areas will be completed in May.

The CCD drew attention to the fact that Russian propaganda talks about the safety of vacationing in the flooded area, but the consequences of the accident have not yet been eliminated.

It is noted that fuel oil emissions will continue because the Russian authorities plan to start raising the sunken tankers next year.

“Russia is putting its own citizens at risk by encouraging them to vacation in an area of ecological disaster, the consequences of which it is unable to eliminate,” the Center for Countering Disinformation added.

As reported by Ukrinform, a Russian activist was fined in Crimea for showing fuel oil-contaminated rocks from the coast of Alushta.
