U.S. President Donald Trump said that within two weeks it will become clear whether Russian leader Vladimir Putin really wants to end the war against Ukraine.

As reported by an Ukrinform correspondent, Trump told journalists about this on Wednesday at a swearing-in ceremony for the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia

Asked if he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to end the war in Ukraine, Trump told reporters, "I can’t tell you that, but I’ll let you know in about two weeks. Within two weeks, we’re going to find out very soon… We’re going to find out whether or not he’s tapping us along or not, and if he is, we’ll respond a little bit differently," Trump said.

"But it’ll take about a week and a half," he said.

Trump stated that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff was handling the negotiations effectively and praised his efforts. He noted that Russia appeared willing to take action, but emphasized that no conclusions could be drawn until a formal agreement was signed.

He also emphasized that he was “very disappointed at what happened a couple of nights now where people were killed in the middle of what you would call a negotiation”.

Trump repeated several times that he was “very disappointed.”

As Ukrinform reported, on Tuesday, Trump said that Putin was “playing with fire” and hinted that he had saved the current Russian regime from serious problems.

Before that, he said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had “gone absolutely crazy” for killing people without cause.
