Zelensky, Sholz talk comprehensive solutions for protecting country against Russia’s gliding bombs

Russia launches at Ukraine nearly 100 aerial guided bombs every day. No anti-aircraft warfare system is able to cope with such a number so complex solutions are needed, which were discussed in Berlin today during the talks between President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Ukrainian head of state announced this during a joint press conference with the chancellor, reports Ukrinform.

"Today alone, Russia launched 135 gliding bombs, each weighing about a tonne. That's a lot. No air defense system can cope with this. Comprehensive solutions are needed. And that's what Olaf and I talked about today. But some things need to be talked about quietly until issues are resolved," the president said without disclosing the details of the negotiations.

Zelensky also thanked Scholz for the decision to allocate additional air defense systems to Ukraine.

"I am grateful for the package of support from Germany, as well as for the allocation of the Patriot system, on which our team is already training. We highly appreciate the quality and accuracy of the IRIS-T system. Our teams have worked hard to speed up all processes so that we have these systems as soon as possible," added the president of Ukraine.

Zelensky emphasized that by providing air defense equipment, Germany has already saved thousands of Ukrainian lives from Russian terror.

"This is something for which Ukraine will always be grateful. This is what brings the end of this war closer," he said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, in his opening speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that in the near future, Germany would deliver to Ukraine the third Patriot air defense system, as well as the Iris-T SLM, Gepard, missiles, and artillery ammunition.
