Serhii Deineko, former head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, has been appointed an advisor to the interior minister. In addition, after a brief period of rehabilitation, he will be appointed commander of a combat unit of the State Border Guard Service.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

According to the minister, based on doctors' recommendations, Deineko requires a short period of recovery after many years of service.

"I value both General Deineko's managerial experience, gained over more than six years as head of the State Border Guard Service, and his combat achievements," Klymenko said.

As an advisor, the interior minister expects Deineko to provide expert support, advice based on combat experience, and to take part in developing decisions in the field of state border security.
