Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 200 Ukrainian artists and 102 media workers have been killed.

That is according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications (MCSC), as reported by Ukrinform.

“These figures speak not only to the scale of the losses, but also recall the tragic chapters of our history. Just as in the 1920s and early 1930s, when the Stalinist regime annihilated an entire generation of Ukrainian artists, today Russia is deliberately targeting Ukraine’s cultural elite,” the ministry stated.

"The literary and artistic generation known as the 'Executed Renaissance' gave the world masterpieces of literature, painting, music, and theater. These artists were the pride of our nation. Today, we are once again losing not just talented Ukrainians, but a part of our soul, because each of our artists is a unique individual who enriched Ukrainian culture," the MCSC noted.

Journalists working in Ukraine produce important news, investigations, and reports under heightened risk, the MCSC emphasized. They document the events of the war to provide Ukraine and the world with accurate information about what is happening.

"Media professionals work 24/7 to gather undeniable evidence of the invaders' crimes and to highlight the strength, heroism, and courage of our defenders," the ministry stressed.

According to the ministry, seven foreign journalists have also been killed in Ukraine since the war began.

The ministry stressed that the systematic crimes against journalists and media committed by Russia represent a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermining democratic values and human rights. They called on the public to preserve the memory of the fallen.

A list of deceased artists, cultural workers, and journalists is available on the Ministry’s official website.
