Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv kills five, injures at least 34

Five people were killed and at least 25 others were injured in a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight on July 2.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"Unfortunately, the death toll has risen to three. Another 25 people have been injured," he wrote.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later provided an updated casualty toll on his Telegram channel.

"Five people have been killed in the capital. Another 34 have been injured. Paramedics have hospitalized 32 of them, while two received medical assistance at the scene," he wrote.

According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES), the attack caused fires and destruction to civilian infrastructure and residential buildings in several districts of the capital.

In the Darnytskyi district, partial destruction was recorded at a five-story apartment building, a nine-story apartment building, the upper floors of a 16-story residential building, and several private houses.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out on the shared roof of a seven-story residential building and a hotel. Elsewhere in the district, a five-story apartment building was damaged, a 300-square-meter fire engulfed another five-story residential building, and a three-story non-residential building caught fire.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out on the technical floor of a 16-story residential building.

In the Pecherskyi district, a nine-story residential building was damaged, and a fire covering 200 square meters broke out on the first and second floors of another building. Emergency responders rescued one person there.

In the Obolonskyi district, a fire erupted at a warehouse site. A wounded person was brought by civilians to the nearest fire station, where rescuers provided first aid.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, two private houses were damaged.

In the Desnianskyi district, a nine-story residential building sustained damage.

All emergency services are working at the affected sites, and information on the consequences of the attack is being updated, the State Emergency Service said.

Kyiv came under a massive Russian missile and drone attack on the night of July 1-2.
