The U.S. Senate, during the main vote, passed a bill to restore the work of the federal government, taking an important step toward ending the longest shutdown in the country's history.

Ukrinform's own correspondent in Washington reported this.

Sixty lawmakers, including seven Democrats and one independent senator, voted in favor of the updated bill. Forty senators voted against it.

The bipartisan compromise was made possible by combining three funding measures into one package, as well as extending temporary government funding not for a few weeks but until January 30 of next year.

As Ukrinform reported, the House of Representatives agreed to expedite the process of adopting the bipartisan agreement. It is expected that Trump will sign the new bill as soon as it reaches his desk.
