Man detained in Zakarpattia region for threatening wife and children with grenade

In the city of Khust, Zakarpattia region, law enforcement officers detained a man who threatened to detonate a grenade inside a house where his wife and two children were present.

According to Ukrinform, the Zakarpattia regional police reported this on Facebook.

"Police received a report of domestic violence in the city of Khust. The caller stated that her husband was threatening to detonate a grenade in the house where she and their two sons were staying. According to the woman, the man had a grenade," the statement said.

Police detained the suspect and evacuated the woman and her two sons, aged 14 and 18. During an inspection of the scene, investigators seized a live grenade from the house.

The suspect was placed in a temporary detention facility. His actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 263 of Ukraine's Criminal Code (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives). A separate legal assessment will be made regarding his actions related to domestic violence and threats against his family.

The victims are currently safe, police said. Authorities are deciding whether to formally notify the detainee of suspicion.
