Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has proposed that NATO countries consider imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine to protect the Alliance’s territory and citizens from Russian drones.

According to Ukrinform, Sikorski said this in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine, as reported by CNN.

“We as NATO and the EU could be capable of doing this, but it is not a decision that Poland can make alone; it can only be made with its allies,” Sikorski said, referring to extending such missions to Ukrainian airspace.

The minister noted that protecting the population, for example, from falling debris, would be more effective if Poland could counter drones and other aerial objects beyond its national territory.

“If Ukraine were to ask us to shoot them down over its territory, that would be advantageous for us. If you ask me personally, we should consider it,” Sikorski added.

Previously, Ukrinform reported that overnight on September 10, Polish military forces shot down drones that had entered Polish airspace. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that NATO allies were facing a “large-scale provocation” from Moscow.
