The United Nations General Assembly has adopted the resolution "Support for lasting peace in Ukraine," calling for an immediate ceasefire and reaffirming the need to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Ukrinform's correspondent in New York, 107 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 12 voted against, and 51 abstained.

Voting against were Russia, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Iran, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, and Sudan.

The document states that the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has been ongoing for four years and has devastating and long-lasting consequences for the country, as well as for regional and global stability.

The General Assembly reaffirms its "commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, extending to its territorial waters."

The resolution also expresses "grave concern at the continued and intensified attacks by the Russian Federation against civilians, civilian objects and critical energy infrastructure, and the grave deterioration of the humanitarian situation."

The document welcomes the efforts of the United States, European countries, and other states aimed at ending the war.

The General Assembly "calls for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire between the Russian Federation and Ukraine," and reiterates its call for "a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in line with international law, including the UN Charter."

A separate paragraph calls for a full exchange of prisoners of war, the release of all unlawfully detained persons, and the return of all interned and forcibly displaced or deported civilians, including children, "as a significant confidence-building measure."

As previously reported, at 22:00 Kyiv time, the United Nations Security Council will convene to discuss the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine.
