Canada is deeply concerned about Russia's potential deployment of nuclear weapons in space.

According to Ukrinform, Brigadier General Christopher Horner Commander of the 3rd Space Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force stated this in an interview with CBC Radio.

"Russia should be a source of concern for Canada because the capabilities it is actually or reportedly developing appear quite alarming," Horner said.

He recalled that information emerged the year before last about Russia preparing to deploy nuclear weapons in space. "That would be catastrophic. If Russia were to do this and detonate such a weapon, everything we rely on for communications and GPS would be destroyed," the general noted.

Horner acknowledged that Canada does not have the capability to develop a weapon capable of disabling a potential Russian nuclear bomb placed in space. "My only advice as a military officer is to put pressure on Russia so that they do not deploy nuclear weapons in space, because that would be an incredibly terrible thing," he added.

As Ukrinform previously reported, last year NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also expressed concern that Russia might soon use nuclear weapons in space.
